Here's some things that you may want to check out:

• Make sure tires are in good condition and properly inflated—don't just look at them, gauge it!
• Check your brakes, including fluid, cables, pads, and rotors
• Engine and Transmission Oil: Keep these fluids clean and full, and keep your filters new and clean
• Leaks should be easy to find if your bike's been sitting for a long time, but check for unwanted fluids, wet connectors, puddles, or other signs of drippage.
• Cracks, Dents, and Other Frame or Structural Damage: Do a thorough check on the complete frame and stress points occasionally to make sure there are no signs of damage.
• Chains and drive belts need to be checked regularly for proper tension and wear.
• Check all the switches. Make sure ALL the lights, lamps, and gauges work.
