Can-Am History

In 1942, a man named J. A. Bombardier founded a company that would later take the name Bombardier Recreational Products (BRP). Though instrumental in developing the first snowmobiles, the company would soon expand into producing other kinds of powersports vehicles.

In 1972, Can-Am was formed as a subsidiary of BRP with the initial focus of producing motorcycles. That changed when the ATV market shifted during the 1990s, during which Can-Am was the first to apply the TTI rear suspension to an ATV frame and later produced the first manufacturer-approved ATV for two people. Though these days Can-Am is primarily focused on producing ATVs and UTVs, the company also manufactures a series of three-wheeled motorcycles.
